PM Modi Hails UPI’s Decade of Digital Payments Transformation Across India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marks UPI’s 10-year journey as India’s digital payments platform reaches unprecedented scale, with transactions rising from 1.78 crore to over 24,162 crore in a decade.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the decade-long success of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), describing it as a major turning point in India’s digital payments journey and urging countrymen to share their experiences of using the platform.

In a social media post, Mr Modi said the sheer scale and reach achieved by UPI are something every Indian must be proud of.

The Unified Payments Interface, launched on this day in 2016, has completed ten years of transforming digital payments in India. Its unprecedented scale and reliability have earned global recognition, with the system now operational across eleven countries.

UPI has emerged as one of the most successful pillars of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, providing an interoperable, real-time payments platform. Its transaction volume has surged almost 13,000-fold since its launch.
